Engraving by Ambroise Tardieu after Chazal and Lejeune, plate 21 from 'Voyage autour du monde' ('Voyage round the world') by Louis Isidore Duperrey (1826). The engraving shows Frenchmen and indigenous inhabitants by a waterfall; a note states that the waterfall was 60 feet high. Duperrey (1786-1865), a French marine hydrographer, was the commander of the 'Coquille' during its voyage (1822-1825) to Chile, Peru, Polynesia, the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Australia.
