Caption:
F W Aston (1877-1945) was an English chemical physicist who devised a way to separate atoms of similar mass and measure these masses accurately. He showed clearly that over fifty elements consisted of atoms of similar but different atomic mass, but the same atomic number. These are known as isotopes.
