Timber scaffolding during the construction of a railway station, by Henry Flather, about 1861. This station was on the underground Metropolitan Railway.
The Metropolitan was the world's first underground railway. It was built to link London's three main railway stations, Paddington, Euston and King's Cross. It opened in 1863 and is still in use today.
