Caption:
Model (scale 1:50). The Brazilian Albert Santos-Dumont (1873-1932) resolved to make the world air-minded. It was in the No VI that on 19th October 1901 he made his famous flight from St Cloud, France round the Eiffel Tower (shown here) in Paris and back in 29 minutes 31 seconds, proving that his airship could be steered and controlled effectively. Until then no airship had proved successful and this flight was the first success the public and officials had witnessed.
