Man powered aircraft 'Puffin II' was developed at the Hatfield aircraft factory in 1965 with funds reclaimed by the insured loss of 'Puffin I' in 1963. The Puffins were built to compete for the Kremer prize for man powered aeroplanes later won by Paul MacCready with 'Gossamer Condor' in 1977.
