Caption:
This saw by Spear & Jackson, Sheffield features a 'Leap-Frog' warranted cast steel blade and brass back. The back stiffened the relatively thin blade to prevent bowing. Craftsmen's hand-tools from the middle of the 20th century look little different from the same tools used 100 years earlier. They continued to be used by the professional trades, as well as serious amateurs who may have acquired some technical training or workshop practice.
