Caption:
One of a series of 'Air Raid Precautions' cards. This one illustrates that the best location for a refuge room is toward the middle of the house on the ground floor, as this is the location best shielded from the air outside, and thus from the dangers of a gas (or nuclear) attack. Despite widely being regarded as a useful source of instruction, production of cigarette cards was halted during both World Wars due to shortages.
