Caption:
Southern Railway viaduct damaged by a bomb, 1940. The brickwork has collapsed, leaving the track suspended in mid air. During the Second World War many railway lines and stations were damaged, especially around London. Railways were targetted in the hope that lines of communication would be cut. As an official photograph taken during the war, this image needed to be passed by a censor.
