Caption:
A photograph of a crowd of fascist supporters in Wood Street, Millbank, London, giving the Nazi salute for the camera, taken by Roper for the Daily Herald newspaper on 3 October, 1937. Struggles between parliamentary democracy, Communism and Fascism dominated the 1920s and 1930s. Clashes were frequent between members of Sir Oswald Mosley’s (1896-1980) British Union of Fascists, and members of the Communist Party. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
