Caption:
One aspect of Elmes' work with McCaughey and Wade was to follow the health of 'Belfast Laggers' - a group of men employed in insulation work with the handling of asbestos, identified through their membership of a single branch of the Transport and General Workers Union. They were followed up at approximately five year intervals to find that some men had died, but others were still alive.
