The Timothy Test was invented by staff at the National Institute of Industrial Psychology (NIIP). Founded in 1921, this organisation introduced the scientific study of work psychology to Great Britain. The idea was to match people with certain innate skills to relevant tasks, thus making them both more productive and happier in their work. This Timothy Test, made largely from Meccano, was designed to measure an applicant's suitability to work in mechanical trades.
