Cray 1A super computer, weighing five and a half tons, made by Cray Research Inc, USA. The Cray 1A supercomputer was twice as fast as its predecessor, the Cray CDC 7600. The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Aldermaston, UK, took delivery of the example shown here (serial number 11) in 1979. The last of the Cray 1As was taken out of service on 27 January 1989.
